Social Security disability insurance (SSDI) covers inability to work in any job which likely will last more than one year.  SSDI eligibility is based on your work quarter contributions within 4 years of becoming disabled.  It makes sense to have an attorney as your SSDI or SSI lawyer and disability advocate.

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI), also known as Social Security Supplements Income, program has the same long term disability requirements but does not require prior recent work history.  It is for any person with very limited resources who cannot work due to their disability.  This social security disability claim has the same procedures as SSDI.  Call an attorney promptly about Supplemental Security Income claims denial.

An attorney can greatly improve your chances of qualifying for SSDI. Most applicants get an attorney if their claim is denied at the initial SSI or SSDI application.  It costs you nothing unless you win.  Even then the fee is governed by statute and only comes out of any back benefits you are awarded.

Supplemental security income for children is available for children with severe disabilities.  Qualified children received Medicaid as well.

Qualifying for social security disability also leads to medical insurance coverage through Medicare and/or Medicaid.
